I hate Sony. For too long has their proprietary shit machines have bummed me out. Everything, that is, except their consoles.
When the Wii and PS3 launched, I bought a Wii - because that was the sensible thing to do. I don’t need a $600 video game console with $50 games. Especially not when I just built a $1200 smoking fast desktop PC.
And yet, hooker killing in a game that might make me feel bad about it beckons mightily…
And if rt would just tell how the media streaming is, I could finally make a choice to abstain, or to plunge headlong into a fiery chasm of vicarious violence that offers an appalling look at myself in a world with slightly fewer consequences.
Update
Okay, so the PS3 doesn’t actually function as a network media streamer. Very disappointing.
If you want to stream media to the PS3, it looks like you have to run some app on *another* computer on your network to stream media that’s been selected in the app to the PS3.
Weak sauce, Sony - royal weak sauce.
Looks like a Mac mini is in my future.
(Well, either a mac mini or another soft-modded original xbox, which functions pretty damn well as a media streamer, with the exception of easy non-xbox remote setup…)
This post is sort of a placeholder for myself, but may be interesting for other similarly-challenged would-be egg poachers. Over at Slashfood, I just read a post about poaching eggs. I love poached eggs, and I consider a good Eggs Benedict to be the absolute height of breakfast pleasure.
Also, I love eggs for breakfast. I’ve been able to make all things egg-breakfast-related with relative competency except: Omelets, Eggs over Easy, and POACHED EGGS.
Poached eggs baffle me. I haven’t even tried that often, because every attempt yields disheartening results at best and egg-splattered temper-tantrums at worst.
Omelets? Well, let’s just say they they usually turn out to be a delicious scrambles, with only an occasional omelet produced. This does not bother me too much, but I would love to get better. That’s another blog post though.
Eggs over Easy? Well, in my opinion, the cardinal sin of of egg frying is a broken or hard yolk - which I seem to run up against most of the time when attempting this. I’m certain I can master this one with some more practice. Though I think that a two-burner-sized griddle would help my efforts. I can’t seem to get my flip on using a regular pan.
Anyways, back to POACHED EGGS.
In the Slashfood post, they link to Rob @ b3ta, who seems similarly challenged (at least as far as egg poaching goes). In Rob’s “How to poach an egg” post, he comes to grip with the myriad of conflicting egg poaching instructions available in the tubes, and tests four well selected methods. I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but the last method tested looks to be nearly foolproof (which is good) and easy (which is great). Sounds like a winner to me.
Once again, I shall throw caution to the wind and try egg poaching this weekend. Once I have this art mastered, I’m off to the arena of Hollandaise - and then ALL BR
Well, that’s about all there is to it. Really. I wanted to see it in the theater, but couldn’t find anyone who wanted to go. So I finally rented it via netflix. Oh Man. Craptacular. Not a single five minute chunk of time passed without severely cringe-worthy dialog. And the fight scenes weren’t even that exciting. The only saving grace is that nobody ever said “Freedom isn’t free”.
No, not possum. Kitten.
On Saturday morning, we adopted a girl kitty from our friend Katy at Cat Adoption Team, a no-kill cat shelter. Even though some of these are at j75.5’s blog, I’ll repost some pictures here. One up front, and the rest after the jump.
Like the headline states, vote for Mr. Splashy Pants! Whales shouldn’t have to be so serious, it might do them some good (publicity-wise) to have a fun name here and there.
On the topic of names… I just found out that a former coworker is going to have a baby girl. At the moment, this very conservative couple is planning on naming their daughter “Jenna”. Apart from being a bit of a clunky name in my own opinion it’s also become synonymous with a certain actress and her profession… So far it has been suggested that this couple should Google “Jenna” before firmly deciding on it.
But they’d be very, very wrong.
I feel like I’m eight. I *need* these toy guns. It might take me a while to rationalize spending $80 for them, but I will get a pair at some point.
I wonder how long I’ll have to play before I beat the high score…
Of course, these days I barely drink. I think I’ve been tipsy about once or twice in the few months, which may be par for some people, but is a significant shift for me. Nonetheless, I still cannot understand why a alcohol-detecting ignition interlock isn’t required on all new vehicles.
Seems so simple and logical, doesn’t it? Really, it’s just like a seat belt - but for other people. Why can’t we pass a law that makes sense for once?
One of many happy and touristy pictures taken in San Francisco with my best girl! I’ll write more about it and post more pictures later. And now, back to work…
Last night, my team and I won championship game of the Tuesday nights Recess Time bowling league! Booya! More pictures to come, once I find them… In the meantime, check me out with the ladies!
